INFORMATION ON: THE RABBIT

  • The rabbits live in underground burrows
  • A group of burrows is called a warren
  • They move around on the tips of their toes
  • Rabbits are not rodents
  • Rabbits have a very fast reproductive rate
  • Gestation: is about 30 days
  • The average size of the litter varies but normally 4 to 12 babies
  • A kit is a baby rabbit
  • Baby rabbits are born blind, naked and helpless
  • Baby rabbits eat on their own at around 14 days old
  • Diet: grass, leafy weeds, vegetables, pellets
  • Rabbits have fragile bones so always support the bottom and tummy when picking up a rabbit
  • Very young children should not handle rabbits
  • There are 44 species of rabbits and hares
