INFORMATION ON: THE SPOTTED HYENA

  • The Spotted Hyena is the largest of the hyenas
  • They mainly survive by scavenging from other predators kills
  • They also at night hunt in packs of 30 or more and run down their prey
  • Shoulder height about 37 inches
  • Sexually mature at 2-3 years
  • Gestation: 92 days
  • Young : usually 2 to 4
  • Diet consists of: carrion, insects, birds, fruit and seeds, small mammals they can hunt
  • Lifespan: 24 years in captivity
  • Hyena do not belong to the dog family
  • Hyena have one of the strongest jaws and teeth in the animal kingdom
