INFORMATION ON: THE HYRAX

  • The Rock Hyrax is closely related to elephants
  • They are territorial with single male territories containing up to 25 females and offspring
  • Hyraxes mostly live in rocky outcrops
  • Their feet are thick rubbery and moist for gripping
  • The feet also have nail-like hooves rather than claws
  • Diet: wide variety of plants, especially grasses soft leaves and fruits
